Asus EeePad Slider - this month in the USA!

To us, it seems like forever since the Asus Silder was announced at the CES in Las Vegas. And if you look at the date, we're not so wrong with that. The CES took place in January, which means we've been waiting for eight months now. Why we're telling you this, now? Well, because we finally see a light at the end of the tunnel. It has been assured, that the device will ship at the end of September. Read on for the pricing and - in case you don't know them already - the specs.

For the 16GB version you're gonna have to pay about $475. If you wanna go for 32GB, you're gonna have to pay $100 more. But since the Slider sports a microSD slot and you can buy a 32GB card for about $45, it arises the question if these 100 bucks are a good investment.

And here are the specs:

  • 10.1 inch IPS display (resolution: 1280x800)
  • 1GHz dual-core processor (Tegra 2)
  • Android Honeycomb 3.2
  • 1GB of RAM
  • 5MP rear and 1.2MP front camera
  • full-size USB 2.0 port
  • mini HDMI and microSD port
  • dimensions: 273 x 180.3 x 17.3 mm
  • weight: 960 g

To our mind, those are pretty ... well, let's just say appropriate specs. But except for the slide-out QWERTY, there is nothing new at all about this device. We think if this had been released alongside with the Transformer or at least a few months earlier than September, this would have been a real killer. But considering that the new Kal-El quad-core processors are going to be available this year, we believe the sales figures aren't gonna be as Asus would like them to be.
